Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Allen Semboze was appointed Chief Executive Officer for ASA Uganda on 1st September 2024. He is a Uganda Citizen with deep expertise in banking, fintechs & financial services He previously worked for various international financial institutions like Standard Chartered, Barclays, Stanbic, Unimoni and Airtel Money across numerous countries in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana South Africa and UAE. A dedicated learner with a keen interest in financial inclusion, he thrives in diverse environments and enjoys working across cultures. He has an MSC in Finance and Economics from the University of Bradford.

Md. Khalilur Rahman

Deputy Managing Director

Mr. Rahman graduated from Rajshahi University in Bangladesh in 1992. He has 26 years’ experience in the microfinance sector. He joined ASA Bangladesh in 1994 and worked as a branch manager, Regional Manager, District Manager and Zonal Manager. He worked at ASA India and at ASA Philippines. He has been the Deputy Managing Director from 2015.

Mr. Omagor is a Certified Public Accountant with over 13 years of professional experience in various industries, such as Automotive, Construction and Educational institutions. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (first class) from Makerere University (Uganda), a Master of Business Administration from Wuhan University of Technology (P.R China) and CPA. He is a full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. He is experienced at finance & accounting, risk management, management of foreign exchange transactions, accounting system development, establishing and maintaining internal controls to achieve the objectives of effective and efficient operations, reliable financial reporting, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Kato Roman Peter, a lawyer with a wealth of experience in various aspects of law has over 3 years of expertise as an in-house counsel, he has proven himself to be an invaluable asset in the legal profession. He holds an Honors Bachelor's Degree of Laws from Makerere University, Subsequently, he pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Center, where he achieved the honor of being recognized as the Best Student in Corporate and Commercial Practice. He has specialized knowledge in Tax and Revenue Administration having obtained a Post Graduate Diploma from the East African School of Taxation. As a member of the Uganda Law Society and a qualified Advocate, Kato Roman Peter is committed to upholding the highest standards of legal practice.

Aloysius Gonza Omugur

Aloysius Gonza Omugur

Head of IT

Mr. Omugur is the Head of IT since 2014. He has a Bachelors in Applied Information Technology and an advanced diploma in Software engineering from Sikkim Manipal University in India. He has 13 years of experience in the IT profession. Prior to joining ASA Uganda, he worked as a senior systems administrator with World Vision Uganda. He is experienced at Enterprise systems and environments, Data and network security, Virtualization, DC-DRS with BCP amongst others.

Kenneth Byamukama

Kenneth Byamukama

Head of Human Resources

Mr. Byamukama is the Head of HR since 2020. He obtained his Post-graduate degree in Human Resource Management from Makerere University Business School, Uganda. He also has a Bachelor of Arts and a diploma in Education from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, Uganda. Mr. Kenneth has over 10 years of HR experience. Before ASA Uganda he was associated with Heritage Coffee Company Limited as Head Human Resources, and served as a Human Resources Officer at Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited and in Kakira Sugar Limited.

Head of Internal Audit

Mr. Kiya Robert joined ASA Microfinance Uganda Limited on 1st September 2020, as Chief Internal Auditor. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and also a holder of a Bachelor of Statistics Degree from Makerere University, Kampala Uganda. He is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration degree (Accounting and Financial Management). He has over fifteen years working experience in Internal Audit and Risk Management in the financial services and manufacturing sectors. He has attended various trainings in Financial Risk Management organized by Women World Banking (WWB) in partnership with Citibank, Assets and Liabilities Management organized by SIMARCH & FMO, MFIs Portfolio reviews and Financial Management organized by School of Applied Microfinance, Mombasa Kenya. He has also attended various continuous professional training programs organized by the Institute of Internal Auditors Uganda.

Md. Azim Hossain

Md. Azim Hossain

Azim Hossain assumed the role of Chief of Operations ('CO') of ASA International in July 2023, having served as the Group's Director of Investment, Treasury and Risk Management since 2005. Mr Hossain has over 34 years of experience in the microfinance industry, having worked for 20 years at ASA NGO Bangladesh, where he held various positions including Director of Finance & MIS and Senior Finance Professional. At ASA Bangladesh, Mr Hossain established the finance and MIS systems, was involved in the development and design of the AMMS, assisted in the establishment of risk management frameworks and was in charge of the NGO Partnership Programme, providing technical and financial assistance to microfinance institutions. He has also worked with the UNDP MicroStart programme in the Philippines and Nigeria, where he was responsible for development, products and services, financial management, performance analysis and business planning.

Allen Semboze was appointed to the Board of Directors for ASA Uganda on 19th September 2024 as an Executive Director by virtue of his position as CEO.

Martijn Bollen

Martijn Bollen

Martijn Bollen is the Chief Compliance, Legal and Risk Officer (‘CCLRO’) of ASA International, having been the General Counsel of the Group since 2007. Mr Bollen has over 15 years of experience in the microfinance industry. He also serves as the General Counsel of Catalyst Microfinance Investors (‘CMI’) and has worked with Sequoia BV since 2005. Mr Bollen worked as an Attorney-at-Law in the banking and finance department of Loyens & Loeff from 2000 to 2004 and from 2004-2005 held roles as in-house counsel and Attorney-at-Law.

Enid Sylvia Kiiza

Enid Sylvia Kiiza

Enid has extensive experience in microfinance, rural and agricultural finance having worked with the central bank (Bank of Uganda)’s Development Finance Department for more than ten years. Enid has also been part of various design and supervision missions to various African countries including Sudan, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Enid combines academic knowledge of agricultural practice and economic policymaking. Her 28 year and 19 years of work and consulting experience (respectively) covers skills in microfinance banking, value chain analyses, development and appraisal of development projects, agricultural policy making strategy and training. Enid has had vast exposure to various micro, agricultural and rural financial systems in Africa and Asia. Her recent consulting work has mainly been on agricultural policy analysis, agricultural SME product reviews and programme development as well as training a wide array of stakeholders on agricultural finance policy and regulation, developing of agricultural finance products, institutional development of financing of agriculture as well as agricultural value chain analyses. Enid did a two and a half-year stint working in rural Uganda, and has travelled and worked in many rural areas in East and Southern African countries enables her to easily link policy to what it translates to at the implementation level.
